Fatal Attraction

Helloooooo!
I had trouble finding the film online so I decided to look up analysis on it and tricks the producer used for certain scenes since I figured it was the only way around. I ran into this blogspot that gave details on how the characters were developed & made to seem as thrilling & creepy as possible; I found this extremely helpful since i really haven't done much research on the developing of my characters. Therefore, I decided to go ahead and do some research since I cant begin filming just yet.

I found this interesting website that gives some tips on how to form & create creepy characters followed by creepy situations. They give the situation & follow it by "what [it] would look like" which makes it much easier & clear to visualize. Check it out!

I continued researching and found out that the speech of the character plays a major role in really emphasizng the creepiness of the character."Unsettling speech is one of the simplest ways to throw people off. Vary the style of pausing, word phrasing and similar. Half-life 2's intro sequence is a wonderful look at how that can be used." Ill continue researching as the week continues since its all i can really be doing, so ill keep you all posted.

I am currently sitting on the beach relaxing meanwhile strolling through old students portfolio projects and CCR's to start getting an idea since me and my partner cant film until I am home. Im not gonna lie i am a little stressed but im hoping everything is going to turn out alright. I have also decided to watch the actual film Fatal Attraction filmed in 1987 to get some definite plot ideas and see how their film opening is shaped along with their color scheme and shots. production prep~

Hi Media Buddies!
Its finally spring break!!!
So me and my partner have decided to start shooting during this break & we are using our iphones for it.  I wanted to begin some research on some editing tips because im honestly not the best. Our iphone camera should work just fine for the quality, but for right now, im just worried about the editing portion. I browsed around YouTube and found this really interesting video, link is here! It gives us some really interesting tools and how to properly use them. I really found it helpful.

I continued browsing after this video and clicked a couple websites that I read on tricks that'll make editing a breeze. Check it out!

Me and my partner should be meeting up some time this week so ill keep you guys posted!
Adios!

Sting!

Welcome back!
Sooo, this week is kind of off because spring break is coming up & me and my partner know we have to be ontop of our game & make sure we use this free time wisely. Following up with my last blog post, me and my partner are stoked to combine our ideas we gathered from our group meetings & begin incorporating them into our film opening. Right now I am researching some good horror movie stings and sound effects we could use during our scenes to create suspense & tension. So, as I was researching I ran into this super cool website that had a video from YouTube linked to it. It showed an instrument that was capable of creating horror sounds that could be used in a film, like mine :-). Here's the link if any of you guys want to check it out! The rest of the website is called Nerdist and it gives several movie examples that did a good job with the horror stings they used. A clip from the movie Halloween is shown that demonstrates scenes that incorporated a well-done horror sting. I didn't know how many different types of horror background music there was! And how differently each one works. This really gave me some good ideas on what type of background music I wanted and exactly which would work best with the types of scenes im doing, I cant wait to show my partner. Stay tuned media friends :)

Group Meets!

Happy Friday media friends!

So this week ended off on a really good note & im super happy about that. Today in class, we met with randomly assigned groups of people and the sole purpose of it was to give and receive advice on how to better the final project. Honestly, I was not excited for this at all; I was being kind of stubborn and kept thinking that I had my plans and ideas set & I didnt want anyone else's advice because i was not going to change it. I really wanted to keep my project within my partner & I buuuuut im really really glad i didnt. I shared my ideas with my group members and they totally switched up my plan & gave me some really interesting ways to adjust my theme & overall plot. I am now extra confident on what im planning on creating and most defnitely have a better mindset going into the shooting process. They gave me ideas on editing techniques and sound motifs i could include; overall just some really cool ideas and im very appreciative of them. Im glad I was forced into this group meet! Im also really exctied to hear what my partners group has to say & what cool tips they gave her. Hopefully when we combine all our new ideas we come up with something really good. Im really excited to meet with my partner this weekend and begin filming for the second time. Our first time around didnt go so well-it started raining and we had to stop and legit "raincheck" it lol. Second time's the charm! See you guys neext weeekkk.

BOO!

Hello media friends! So me and my partner decided to dive deeper into our research on horror background sounds and target audience. We chose to look at prosperous horror films and the age range they chose to target and found an interesting target audience-secondary research website that gives an explanation as to why horror movies typically targets the age range of 15-25. The website discusses gender, age, class, etc. Beginning with horror film The Cabin In The Woods which targets young couples ages 16-25, A Nightmare on Elm Street & Texas Chainsaw Massare which goes for the same age range as well. Going back to the Paranormal Activity Series, this is some research I found on their age range and why.

The most common reason for this is that young adults and teenagers enjoy thrills and they tend to excited a younger audience versus an older one. Horror films are generally aimed at middle class because the can acquire a good thrill at a reasonably lower cost meanwhile the upper class are less likely because they can acquire this sensation if they need to do in other ways. These type of films are also generally aimed at more males than females because stereotypically males enjoy the violence more than females. SOO, we decided that we are going for 15-25 middle class, both male & females.
Now that we established that, we are gonna begin research on typical creepy background sounds that popular horror films incorporate and get some extra ideas what we could use. Stay posted :)

xoxo,

Coral

Week 3!!

Welcome back media friends! So this weeks plans consist of really preparing the details for our movie to be its best. We're starting this week of with deciding which soundtrack to use for our film. My teacher recommended this really interesting website I have yet to fully check out called Purple Planet which is a website in which you can access royalty free music & incorporate it in your films. We plan on using mysterious, creepy background sounds during the menacing climax scenes. Also, in the beginning of our opening, we'd like some "calm before the storm" music to open the movie. We looked over the "creepy" section in the website and really enjoyed one called "OUTCAST".

Also, as i was doing some research for softwares to use for editing (since im really awful with edits),  I read an old students blog and she had recomended this interesting softward called "Pinnacle Studio 19". This software is meant to make editing videos much easier for newbies, like myself :). I have yet to get it because im making sure its safe and trustworthy before downloading anything onto my laptop, but when I do, I will make sure to update you guys! See you guys soon with some more updates
xoxo, Coral

Week 2 Recap

Hi media friends!! So most of this week, we worked on our creating storyboard and really emphasizing on how we wanted to approach our film opening. Since we basically completed it and our scheduling as well, we decided to make our shooting process to come a little quicker than expected. We are using my house and my neighbors house for our setting therefore we can shoot whenever we would like to with no problem. Hopefully you guys can see a sneak peak of it sometime next week, whether its a couple seconds only. Buttt, until then join me in the process of the beginning of everything! :-)

Ooops...

Soo.. me and my partner just realized that our entire storyboard was completely wrong. We were a little iffy about the length of our story board because we thought we had too many shots so, I asked to my teacher and she basically told us we had created an entire movie and not a film opening. We were slightly relieved but at the same time frustrated because we spent so much time making the storyboard to just have to erase 96% of it. Wellll, on the bright side, it definitely eases things up for us because it is much less work now. Apart from the storyboard mess, we finally created our schedule now that we had our storyboard mistake fixed! This is what it looks like so far....
We used pages as you can see, and we havent fully decided the color scheme for it. It took us forever to figure out how to adjust the font sizing and make every word fit & the font kept switching up on us. So, yes it is a work in progress, but we have the hard stuff figured out! Stay posted media friends xoxo

story board time!

Soo... finally, me and my partner decided to create our storyboard and we are now realizing how much this really helps with visualizing how our film opening is going to look. We decided both of us arent the best at drawing so we chose to take draft pictures and use them to sort of visualize what the scene is going to look like. Here's another sneak peak...

So far, this style of storyboarding made the idea process run very smoothly & it was much easier to sort out. Our plot is developing very nicely & hopefully by my next couple posting the shooting process will begin! Stay tuned media friends!

Facing our first bump in the road

So after we officially decided with the thriller/horror movie mix-up genre, we quickly dove into the title of our movie so that we could base our font and design off it. Since our movie's plot is about a boy, Jason, who is overly obsessed with the new girl, Molly we decided to do some research on stalking behaviors and diagnosis. We ran into fatal attraction syndrome , or stalking, which consists of chronic nuisance behaviors by an offender that result in deleterious emotional and/or physical effects on a victim. So we decided to name our movie, Fatal Attraction. I felt this name was extremely spine-chilling and intriguing so we didn't even bother searching for more, it fit just right. Moving onto our font, we googled "horror fonts" to get ideas flowing since we wanted to open our range from just our typical word & google docs fonts. This is where we ran into our problem...
we opened up dafont.com and found our choice immediately, "true lies"

This was my first time downloading a font onto my computer so I had no idea how it worked. I began to download it and i couldn't figure out how to make the font appear on my Word as a choice. Me and my partner both attempted until we got too frustrated and resorted to my teacher. She quickly sent us a link to a YouTube video that guided us step by step and we figured it out. We are still playing around with it but so far so good! We thought the style of this font gave it that chilling, creeper look we were going for and the edges of the words look like they are blood smears; we just knew it was the one.

 Here's a quick sneak peak..

STAY TUNED FOR THE REST MEDIA FRIENDS

& the planning continues...

Hi again! So, me and my partner have done a lot of thinking over the last 48 hours & we have chosen to deviate slightly from the just sticking to the horror genre & instead combine it with thriller! We felt it would be perfect for our 15-25 year old audience. Also, we related it to the number one movie for thriller, "Paranormal Activity" which was made for $15,000 and had a box office gross of $161,830,890 for a return of 539,336.30%, according to Ivestopedia.

We figured, why not risk it and go for the challenge. Also, my partner and I are really into thrillers so our ideas for this film are endless, we just need to figure out how to properly put them together & create our masterpiece of a project :') As of right now, our plot is centered around a young girl who's new to a small town.  She's getting ready for her first day of school & as her day goes by she meets a guy who becomes overly obsessive. He follows her around, finds out where she lives, and becomes crazier by the second, sending her anonymous texts. We chose to make the girl a teenager in school because it relates to a real social issue that can occur to absolutely any young teen in high school. Also, her young age makes her seem vulnerable, making this plot all the more enticing.  Most of our inspiration of the anonymous texts derived from the television show Pretty Little Liars in which the group of four girls are haunted by mysterious texts from her dead best friend. Let's see what we continue brainstorming...
